C.) Your letter states that you will use the recommendations of the Bent Soil Conservation
district, please provide the Division with a copy of their recommendations. In the 1994
Amendment One application, the soil conservation service recommended the following seed
mixture:
a. Western Wheatgrass at 2.4 PLS/acre
b. Sideoats Grama at 2.7 PLS/acre
c. Little Bluestein at 1.05 PLS/acre
d. Blue Grama at .6 PLS/acre
e. Galleta at 2.4 PLS/acre
It is recommended by the Division that the seed mixture shown above be used instead of
using the proposed seed mixture in this amendment application. The new mixture
contains several non-native species like Smooth Brome, Russian Wildrye and crested
wheatgrass for example. Non-native species should be avoided in the seed mixture.
D.) You state that the topsoil is 4-6 inches in some of the area, and less in others, however, it
states in the soil information you submitted that the first soil horizon ranges from 3-10
inches in depth. Please commit to salvaging as much topsoil that is available and spreading
all the available topsoil 3-10 inches over then entire affected area.
E.) Please provide a weed control plan for the site. Will any monitoring for weed species be
done? If weed species are found on the site now and in the future, please describe the
methods that will be used to manage the weed species so the desired vegetation will become
successfully established.
This concludes the Division's preliminary adequacy review of this application. Please remember
that the decision date for this application is November 5`", 2008. As previously mentioned if you
are unable to provide satisfactory responses to any inadequacies prior to this date, it will be your
responsibility to request an extension of time to allow for continued review of this
application. If there are still unresolved issues when the decision date arrives and no extension
has been requested, the application will be denied. If you have any questions, please contact me
at (303) 866-3567 ext. 8120.
Sincerely,
Jared Ebert
Environmental Protection Specialist
2
