3) A random number generator such as the one provided in the QuattroPro Spreadsheet
Program, will be run using the total number of sample blocks determined in Step 1 and the
number of sample points required from Step 2 of this procedure.
4) All randomly selected sample blocks from step 3, will be located in the field by standard
surveying methods. After the 5o x 50 foot sample block is field staked, a 3 foot x 3 foot
sample grid square will be tossed over the back of the samplers head to determine the final
sample grid to be cut and collected. The vegetation within the 3 x 3 foot sample grid will be
clipped as close to the ground as practical and gathered and air dried for 96 hours to
simulate field hay drying, before it is weighed and the yield per acre is calculated. The
results from all 3 x 3 foot sample points will be mathematically averaged.
5) The data will be evaluated for sampling adequacy using the following formula:
Nmin = [(ta + tp)2 * (s2)l/(dQ)2
where:
Nmin = minimum numberofsamplinggrids toachieve sampling adequacy.
s = sample standard deviation
Q = 90% of technical standard
to = the (a=.10) t table value for a single tailed West with (n-1) degrees
of freedom
= the (= .25) t table value for a single tailed t-test
d = desired level of reduction about the sample mean (0.90%
confidence)
6) WFC would like to reserve the option to measure vegetation production by the old fashion
method, which is, cut, bale, weigh and count bales.
Acceptable production will be achieved when the production value determined for the appropriate
irrigated hayland reclaimed areas is not less than 90 percent of the 1.84 tons per acre with 90
percent statistical confidence.
Irrigated Pasture T e. The revegetation success standards for this type are based. on the
establishment of irrigated pasture as the postmining land use.
