(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1981-236
INSPECTION DATE 10/01/08 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS PSH
OBSERVATIONS
The Colorado River Ranch Gravel Pit, File No. M-1981-236, was inspected by Peter Hays with
the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) as part of the Division's 4-year
monitoring inspection program. Mr. Raymond Petersen was present during the inspection.
The Colorado River Ranch Gravel Pit is located approximately 3 miles east of Kremmling,
Colorado on State Highway 40. The Division approved a 110c to 112c permit conversion on
June 9, 2000, increasing the permitted acreage from 7.8 to 29.8 acres. The site was
previously inspected by the Division on May 24, 2004.
The approved mining plan indicates mining in the south pit will continue to the east with
processed material stockpiled on the west side of the pit. The pit will continue to
operate to the east until all material has been mined to the east boundary. Once the
south pit has been depleted mining will begin in the north pit in a northern direction.
The last 3/4 acre section in the east end of the south pit is being mined as pit run
material currently. A crusher was not observed on site, however several processed
material stockpiles were observed. Mr. Petersen stated a crusher is brought on site as
needed to process material. Mining has started in the north pit as indicated in the
annual reports. The north pit highwall is 10 feet high with a 1:1 slope. Topsoil
stockpiles will need to be relocated prior to mining activities proceeding further north.
Reclamation has started in the southwest corner of the south pit. The reclaimed slope
appeared to be 3:1 with 6' of topsoil, which is consistent with the reclamation plan. Mr.
Petersen stated further reclamation is planned along the southern boundary of the south
pit. The reclamation plan indicates the south pit will be reclaimed from east to west. A
well vegetated topsoil stockpile was observed east of the access road in addition to the
topsoil stockpiles along the north and south sides of the south pit and north of the north
pit highwall. All topsoil stockpiles appeared stable and no erosion was noted.
The required 30 foot power pole offset was verified and markers were observed. The annual
report and map accurately depicted the status of the site.
The Division currently holds a financial warranty of $20,500, which is adequate to
complete the reclamation of the site based on the observations from this inspection.
An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers were observed as required by Rule
3.1.12. No problems were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Raymond C. Petersen
Colorado River Ranch
P.O.
