MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-900 1 -068
INSPECTION DATE: i nIn77/1LR INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: 11F
-
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring, inspection of the Bottomless Pit; permit number M-2001-068. This site is located approximately, ten
miles north east of• Trinidad, Colorado in Las Animas County, along Highway 160. I, Jared Ebert of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Brent Tamburelli of Tamrock Gravel accompanied me on the
inspection.
'This is a 327.50 acres site that was permitted to be mined in nine phases, each phase is anywhere between 5-14 acres. Reclamation is
to be concurrent with mining as the operating proceeds through the phases. 'flhe post mine land use for this site is designated as
rangeland. File entire site was driven and each of the permit boundary markers was located.
At the time of the inspection, mining in phase one has been complete and the site was in the reclamation phase. A haul road rums
throw h phase one. The remainder of this phase had been graded, topsoiled and seeded. The vegetation has not really begun to
establish. The primary plant species growing in phase one is Russian thistle and other weeds. Overall, phase one appeared to the
stable.
Mining in phase two has also been completed, the operator is in the process of grading, the area. 'T'opsoil had been spread in the
majority of this phase. The current mining activity is located in phases three and four. Topsoil has been stripped in these areas and
placed along the eastern and southern boundary of phase three. According, to Mr. 'I'amburclli, the topsoil is generally re-distributed
over a graded area within one year after it has been stripped, so no vegetation has been established on the topsoil piles at this time.
'T'he operator is reminded that if the topsoil piles area not re-spread in a time short enough to limit topsoil deterioration, the current
approved reclamation plan states that the topsoil piles will be seeded with wheat grasses that when established, will protect the piles
front wind and water erosion. The current pit excavation in phase three and four appears to be 10 to 15 feet deep.
No problems were observed at the site at the time of the inspection.
L
Alk-
At .49,
I uumcJ1.) %,ic\\ ol'Phase 1. 1 ookin- area has been
graded, topsoiled and seeded.
