MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: m-gn0.3-7( 79
INSPECTION DATE: IC)/nA.jq nq INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: ?lLE-
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Wet Canyon Mine; permit number M-2003-072. This site is
located about seven miles north of the town of Wcston, Colorado in Las Animas County. I, Jared Ebcrt of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Michael Browning, the
operator and the land owner accompanied tile oil the Inspection.
The permit area for this site is designated as 9.9 acres. The post aline land used designated for this site is
Rangeland. The proper aline identification sign was in place, and the entire pernlit boundary was walked, and
all the corners ofthe permit area were marked with posts. The mine excavation appears to be within these
boundaries. The mining operation is taking place on a steep hill just above County Road 31.9. Essentially, two
excavations are taking place. As one enters the site from the landowners drive way, a steep road leads up a hill
to the first excavation. On the north cast side of this excavation, another steep road takes you to the top of the
hill where the second excavation is taking place. According to Mr. Browning, he is done mining on this site
and is going to begin reclamation.
The bottom excavation has cut into the side of the hill and there is a 10-20 foot highwall cut into the 11111. The
rest of the bottom excavation is relatively flat with slight undulations of the floor. There are several stockpiles
of mined material on the excavation floor, along with the topsoil piles. Mr. Browning stated that he is going to
begin to backfill the highwall and slope it a 3:1 horizontal to vertical angle.
'['lie top excavation has essentially cut off the top of'the hill. This area is relatively flat; however large
stockpiles of mined material and soil are within this area. Mr. Browning has also flattened an area just west of
the permit boundary in order to place a house on top of the hill. This activity in not part of the mining
operation.
Not problems were observed at this site

h•igurc l.) Bottom excavation, looking north.
