MINT ID t# OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-mon-no?
INSPECTION DATE:
INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: 11F
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Tanabe Pit; pernlit number M-2000-002. This site is located at
120`x' and Brighton Road, in Adams County, Colorado. f, Jared Ebert of the Colorado Division of'Reclamation,
Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Scan Frisch and Anne Robert of f_afarge North America Inc.
accompanied me on the inspection.
This site consists of 78.90 acres, mining has been completed on this site and the operator is in the final stages of
reclamation. The post aline land use for this site is designated as Developed Water Resource. The site is split
into two distinct areas. The reservoir takes up the northern portion ofthe permit area. To the south of the
reservoir, another pit excavation was created. This excavation was to be filled in with fines and other mined
material.
The reservoirs slopes appeared to be at a 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. The slopes appeared stable with thick
vegetative cover primarily consisting of-Kochia weed. Other species of grasses and lorbs were noticed as well.
The weeds on this site will need to be treated and the site will need to be revegetated with the approved seed
mix.
As one moves south west from the reservoir the land flattens out, this area has recently been drill seeded and
various species of grasses are beginning to establish. The old pit excavation to the south of the reservoir
appears to have been filled up, however there is a small berm in place around the pit excavation. This berm
drops off about 1-3 feet down into the excavation; the berm will need to be flattened out prior to release of the
site. Primarily cottonwood trees have volunteered into the pit excavation. Unfortunately, many Russian olive
trees and "Tamarisk trees have also beconle established in this area. This site will not be released until the
Russian olive trees and the tamarisk trees have been treated and controlled. This is cited as a problem on the
last page of this report. (See Figures 7-8)
Also, a pile oftrash was noticed on the north cast corner ofthe lake. This is cited as a problem on the last page
ofthis report. (See Figure I )

I"igure l.)
