(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-040
INSPECTION DATE 09/24/08
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS PSH
The State Line Ranch Pit, File No. M-2000-040, was inspected by Peter Hays with the
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) as part of the Division's 4-year
monitoring inspection program.
The State Line Ranch Pit is located approximately 5 miles west of Cowdrey, CO on Hwy 125.
The site was previously inspected by the Division on April 28, 2004.
Prior to this inspection, Tom Floric with the U.S. Forest Service was contacted to arrange
the inspection. Mr. Floric stated the pit has not been mined for 3 years. The amount of
vegetative cover on the highwall confirmed the pit has not been active for several years.
The 2008 annual report stated no new disturbances or reclamation have occurred at the
State Line Ranch Pit in the past year. The Forest Service states the pit is in a
desirable location for future road construction and maintenance projects and they would
like to continue to have the option of using the material from the pit in the future.
The site consists of a decomposed granite hilltop. The material to be excavated lies in a
deposit averaging 15-25 feet in depth, approximately 225 feet wide and an estimated 400
feet in depth. The approved mining plan for the State Line Ranch pit allows for a maximum
disturbed area of 7 acres with a maximum excavation depth of 25 feet.
The highwall was measured at 23 feet high at a 1:1 slope, which is consistent with the
mining plan and previous inspections. The topsoil stockpile, debris disposal site and
oversize stockpile were observed during the inspection as depicted on the mining Plan map.
The pit area, highwall length and entrance sign location were GPS surveyed with a Trimble
Geo XT by the Division. The survey indicated the pit area was 0.60 acres and the highwall
was 200 feet long. A map indicating the result of the GPS survey is attached.
The entrance sign was not found during the inspection. The sign will need to be replaced per
Rule 3.1.12 (see corrective actions section).
I & E Contact Address
? CE
NAME Phil Cruz ?
