The permit was converted (CN-01)from an 110c to an
112c permit on March 7, 2005 increasing the permitted acreage from 6 acres to 32.25 acres.
The site was previously inspected by the Division on December 29, 2004 in response to the
conversion application submittal by Jackson County.
The approved mining plan for the BLM East Gravel pit allows for a maximum disturbed area
of 30 acres with a maximum excavation depth of 20 feet. Overburden and topsoil will be
stockpiled as mining progresses with expected overall stockpiles of 41,300 yards of
overburden and 19,500 yards of topsoil. Approximately, 4,700 yards of topsoil will be
imported to complete reclamation.
The annual reports from Jackson County, indicate no mining occurred at the site during
2007 and 2006. 5,973 yards of stockpiled material was removed from the pit in 2006 and
528 yards of topsoil was hauled from another site. The imported topsoil stockpile was
observed during the inspection. The stockpile is located in the southwest corner of the
site across from the entrance gate and no erosion was observed. The topsoil and overburden
stockpiles were signed accordingly and vegetated.
Mr. Norris with Jackson County stated a contractor has been removing extra sand stockpiled
in the southwest corner of the pit during 2008. Mr. Norris confirmed the pit has not been
mined for three years, however mining will continue to the northeast soon. A 50' strip of
topsoil and vegetation has been removed ahead of mining activities.
The pit slopes were inspected and measured approximately 15 feet high with a 4:1 slope.
Three stockpiles of screened 3/4", 5/8" and 5/16" material were observed on site. A
conveyor and crusher were also observed during the inspection.
No problems or violations were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
?
