MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M19R-3-DAZ
INSPECTION DATE: 9-96-9008 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: 11 F
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Stagecoach Pit; permit
number M-1983-067. This site is located three miles south of the town of
Brighton, Colorado in Adams County. I, Jared Ebert of the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr.
Sean Frisch and Amie Robert of Lafarge North America, Inc. accompanied me
on the inspection.
This site consists of 52.40 acres. The post mine land use designated for
this site is Developed Water Resource. Through the mining operation, a
water storage reservoir will be created. As of now, Lafarge has just
begun the mining process. The top layer of overburden and topsoil has
been removed and piled within the permit area. According to the current
approved mine plan, the operator committed to vegetating the Topsoil pile
with the approved seed mixture specified in the reclamation plan.
According to Mr. Frisch, this task has not been completed. The topsoil
pile will need to be seeded with the approved seed mixture to allow
vegetation to establish on the pile to protect the pile from wind and
water erosion. This is cited as a problem on the last page of this
report.
According to the 2008 annual report submitted to the Division from
Lafarge, the slurry wall has been installed around the pit in 2005.
During the Amendment 01 application process, the operator instituted a
groundwater monitoring plan. They committed to monitoring the ground
water levels in six different wells around the property on a monthly basis
for the duration of the project. They also committed to supplying the
Division with the well monitoring data with their annual reports. Upon
review of the Divisions files, it appears that the Division has not
received this data. This is cited as a problem on the last page of this
report. The operator will need to submit to the Division all the data
they have collected since the initiation of the monitoring program in
2002.
