I believe that this will, ultimately, bring greater utility and efficiency to the
hydrolgic database we continue to build.
The compilation of Annual Hydrologic Reports has typically required the,
sometimes difficult, transfer of information from the old ORACLE database into a
spreadsheet application and then a graphing application. With the new ORACLE
productivity applications all of these fuctions can be accomplished from within the
ORACLE interface.
This transition has, unfortunately, not been without adversity. Our consultant
encountered many difficulties transferring our old data into the new system. Though very
nearly completed, the transfer of files to the new system is still in progress. These
difficulties have, however, allowed us to identify many duplicate records, consolidate
records for sites that have been identified by multiple names, and to correlate analysis
parameters that had multiple descriptions.
To further complicate our schedule here, we have experienced a 75% turnover of
the personnel in our Environmental Department within the last six months. Becoming
familiar with departmental records, learning the new ORACLE applications, and assuming
additional duties as departmental positions are being filled has, indeed, limited my
productivity since transferring into this department.
It is my desire to build and maintain the most comprehensive and useful hydrologic
database possible, and to efficiently compile a complete and factual report in a highly
