Carter
Jim Dupler
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: 112 Hard Rock /Metal Annual Report and Fees
Permit M-1977-300
- Dear Mr._Dupler_ --
9/22/2008
Pursuant to Section 34-32-116 of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Act, C.R.S.
1973, as amended, enclosed is the 112 Annual Report and Fee for the Cotter
Corporation Schwartzwalder Mine, Reclamation Permit M-1977-300. This report
provides a summary of the Cotter Corporation's activities at the Schwartzwalder Mine
Site. All mining operations were discontinued in 2003 site.
The Schwartzwalder Mine is located in Jefferson County. The mine has a total permitted
affected acreage of 43.29 acres in Section 25, T25, R71W, 6PM and Section 8, T3S,
R70W, 6PM. This acreage is unchanged from the previous report (see Figure 1).
Changes to Affected Area:
There were no significant changes to the affected area for this reporting period. A map
is not included with this report as the version submitted last year accurately depicts
affected area status.
Reclamation Completed During Report Period:
Cleanup of debris from the burned welding shop was completed with no salvageable
equipment resulting. Some cleanup and maintenance of the water treatment building
was conducted. Underground equipment and tool reclamation was completed.
Installation was completed on bulkheads to Steve and Pierce Adits to prevent mine
water discharge to the surface.
The Cotter Corporation is developing a plan for final phases of decommissioning and
reclamation activities. Characterization of the water treatment building slab, Barrens
Ponds, and the former welding shop concrete pad was completed. Samples from
additional scoping surveys have been submitted to the lab for analysis. These surveys
are necessary to determine the rate and extent of impacts which affect the plan for
reclamation.
Finally, notification has been sent to DRMS that Cotter accepts the change in status to a
Designated Mining Operation. Negotiations are underway to secure a contractor to
develop an Environmental Protection Plan for the mine.
Cotter Corporation Telephone (720) 554-6200
7800 E.
