MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID#: M-1977-493 PAGE: 2
INSPECTION DATE: 7-31-08 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ACS
OBSERVATIONS
1. The construction of the new mill building approved under
technical revision TR-14 was underway. Climax is reminded that a
stipulation to approval of TR-14 is that a cost estimate be
submitted to the Division for decommissioning and demolition of new
mill and accessory buildings and for the new tailing delivery line.
This is due by January 1, 2009.
2. The Arkansas Lake area abandoned utility line discussed in the 9-
26-07 inspection report has been removed. Climax completed this
project without significant disturbance to the vegetation that has
established in the utility corridor in the decades since the line
was first installed.
3. The Robinson Lake sediment removal project approved under
technical revision TR-15 was underway. Sediments are loaded into
trucks and are transported to and dumped on the crest of 2-Dam.
The sediments then slide or are pushed into Ten Mile Pond.
Natural organic sediments excavated from Robison Lake are being
hauled to stockpiles along the crest of 1-Dam. The natural
sediments may be used as topsoil for reclamation, but first must
be tested for metals and agronomic properties in accordance with
the terms of TR-15. Also, if these materials are to remain in
stockpile, they must be seeded by the end of October 2008.
4. The Ten Mile Tunnel rehabilitation project approved under
technical revision TR-14 was underway. Both portals of the Ten
mile Tunnel were inspected.
Inspection & Enforcement Contact Address
NAME Johnny Pappas
OPERATOR Climax Molybdenum Company
STREET Climax Mine
CITY/STATE/ZIP Climax, CO 80429
