Reclamation of Existing Geotextile Channel and eroded Land Slope
Eventually, once all mining activity as ceased, the entire geotextile channel which currently
contains Deadman gulch flows will be reclaimed. However, in the interim, only the portion that
is non-essential to the amended channel design (described in Attachment C) will be reclaimed.
The amended channel design described in Attachment C, will require only that portion which
captures the Deadman Gulch headwater seeps, and flows that traverse the length immediately
along the pad surface. At the point where the pad surface stops, and the waste rock slope begins
- is where the `amended' design will tag into the channel, capture flows within a cement inlet;
and route them down-slope adjacent to the waste rock slope to the bottom (and into a passive
treatment catchment basin). Thus, the portion of the existing geotextile channel that leads into
the forest will be reclaimed. The step-wise progression of the reclamation will occur as follows:
1. Removal and proper disposal of geotextile fabric (if fabric is in good shape, it may be
retained for use on site).
2. - Where possible, top soil retained from historic operations (beam material along Deadman
Gulch) or that was washed down-slope to the toe of the waste rock pile will be scavenged
and used to fill in the erosion channel created by the slide. It is estimated that of
material over a surface area of (1000' x 10' = 10,000 sq. ft) will be applied for a total
volume of x833 ft3.
3. Re-contouring of affected slope by pulling-up the `ditch bench' and smoothing the
surface, using appropriate equipment (backhoe, bobcat).
4. Top soil was retained at the toe of the ditch bench, and will be smoothed over the affected
surface.
5. The affected `surface will be re-seeded using .a BLM-approved seed mix for the project
altitude: A standard hig.ph-alhtudc, mountain slope broadcast application seed mix was
rovidedato"the BLM for review (originally formulated by Southwest Seed, Dolores C
?nd is summarized in Table B.1. Revegetation success will be monitored and amended where appropriate based upon site
investigation review by BLM and DRMS.
Reclamation of the geotextile channel will occur at the same time as the channel amendment is
put in place (Fall, 2008).
4
