JD
STATE OF COLORADO 2008
C4OR*14
Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES DIVISION OF WILDLIFEAN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Thomas E. The current operation is approximately 21 acres in size; the
proposal is for an expansion of 13 acres, with one acre overlap with the current leased area, to the west of the
current facility and pit. This area is primarily seeded in alfalfa for agricultural production.
There are no known threatened or endangered species or critical habitat for such species at this location.
There is seasonal use by mule deer, elk and pronghorn antelope of the area and it is recommended that any new
fence construction incorporate standards to help alleviate injury to animals attempting to cross fences. The
CDOW can provide recommended fence standards upon request.
Greater sandhill cranes use agricultural fields adjacent to the current facility during spring and fall migration. In
the past there has been sandhill crane mortality in the Yampa Valley Regional Airport area due to birds hitting
fences and- power lines. If fences or power lines were to be constructed it is suggested that measures be taken to
improve visibility of these structures to the birds.
Tf you have any questions o. concerns. please contact District. Wildli fe Mapager,? Steve.Znamenacek at 970 846-
3 Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project.
Sin eiy,
` _ __
James M.
