Item #5 h-
1) Drill sites will be approximately 75' X 120', or 0.193 acres each plus mud pit for a total
of 0.21 acres per location. Topsoil will be salvaged from the drill sites and mud pit
locations and stored immediately adjacent to the site. No topsoil salvage will occur along
the access route.
2) Drill sites will be located on relatively flat areas. An average of approximately 100 CY
of material will be moved during drill site construction (1400 CY total). The new access
routes were sited to minimize the need for earth moving. Access to most sites will
require negligible earthwork. We estimate that access will require a total of about 500
CY of cut and fill.
3) Seed rates of pounds per live seed per acre for broadcasting are shown in Section 9.2 of
the Federal Coal Exploration License application. This seed mix is based on the mix
requested by the BLM for BME's last exploration license. Changes from this proposed
mix may be made at the request of the BLM.
4) The depths of the proposed drill holes can be found in the table provided above.
5) Prior drilling in the area indicated no presence of a groundwater aquifer. Any
groundwater encountered was very limited in extent indicating origination from an
aquiclude. We do not anticipate encountering an aquifer with the proposed drilling.
6) All drill holes will be grout-cemented through coal-bearing strata, with cement extending
50 feet above and below the mineable coal bed. The remainder of the hole will be
backfilled with cuttings and mud to ten (10) feet or less below the surface. The hole will
then be grout-cemented to the original ground surface. A 2 to 3 foot length of tubing will
be cemented into the top of each hole extending less than 8" above the surface and will
serve as the hole monument. Aluminum or brass caps marked with the hole identification
number will be cemented into the top of the hole monument.
7) There are no current plans to develop any of these holes as water wells. However, we are
considering developing one or more hole into a monitoring well.
Item #6. A letter from the Colorado Division of Wildlife specifically addressing this
project is attached.
