Processing Waste
The mine is actively grubbing the steep slope immediately behind the Refuse Pile Expansion
(RPE) in preparation to strip and live haul this soil to the outslope of the RPE. Vegetation
material was being mechanically mulched and sprayed back onto the soil layer in preparation
for stripping. Cover material is stockpiled on site and about three feet of cover will be applied
to the outslope prior to the application of one foot of topsoil. The Division suggested using
depth stakes on the outslope to indicate the required depths and to demonstrate compliance
with the approved plan once reclamation of the outslope is underway.
t
Ili I
General Mine Plan Compliance
The operator is currently longwall mining in the B-seam in Panel 25 immediately east of
Sylvester Gulch near the facility area. Some rockfall had occurred along a degas road in this
area and was being cleared from the road.
Development mining continues in the E seam with the headgate development about four
crosscuts from connecting to the start room area. With completion of this development, the
mine will install a new longwall system which is delivered and stored in the material storage
areas in the facility area. The old longwall will be removed and sold or relocated. Each new
longwall shield is two meters in width and weighs 33 tons. The longwall will have the ability
to mine a minimum coal thickness of about 6 feet up to a maximum of 14 feet.
4
