42.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES --
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS.
~_
2.05.4 Reclamation Plan.
(2) (d) (Cont'd.)
The soils of the OVWM pipeline and 200,000 gallon water
tank were identified in the U.S. Soil Conservation Ser-
vice, Soil Survey of P aonia, CO, January, 1981, as Del-
son stony loam, 3% to 20X slopes. Twelve inches of
topsoil was salvaged from the area of the foundation
and redistributed over the ground surface adjacent to
the tank and seeded. Because the A, B & C horizons of
the soils along the pipeline were rated as excellent
topsoil medium and the depth of excavation did not ex-
ceed the depth of this medium, no separation of topsoil
during excavation or backfilling was required.
Sampling and analysis of soils in the area of the Or-
chard Valley West Mine site was completed in July,
1986, by CWI' consultant, Harner and Associates, Inc.
Sampling techniques and results are presented in the
Soils Appendix, Volume 9.
Due to the steep slopes east of East Roatcap Creek and
the quantities of stones in these soils, 32 inches of
topsoil was salvaged from the area of disturbance west
of East Roatcap Creek where Delson soil occurs.
The land use goal of the Orchard Valley West Mine site
is to produce a permanent, diverse vegetation cover
suitable for rangeland and wildlife habitat. To meet
these goals, an average depth of 24 inches of topsoil
or conditioned soil material would be returned to the
reclaimed surface.
~ e)
Revegetation Plan
Revegetation at the Orchard Valley Mine will be accom-
plished according to a strict timetable involving soil
preparation, seeding with adapted species mix, planting
of containerized stock, fertilization, mulching and
monitoring of results to achieve a native plant cover
consistent with the desired land use goals.

Revised 10/01/87
67
