MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-19Ri-t38
INSPECTION DATE: 8_?A_,)nnR INSPECTOR=S INITIALS:
MAC
OBSERVATIONS
This was a pre-operational inspection of the Glover Pit, permit number M-1981-138. This site is located
approximately 21 miles south of Walsh, Colorado in Baca County. I, Jared Ebert and Michael Cunningham of
the Colorado Division ol'Reclanlation, Mining and Safety Conducted the Inspection. Mr. Peter Dawson of
Baca COLInty accompanied its on the inspection.
This site is currently a 110 (c) operation containing 9.4 acres. They have submitted a conversion application to
add 38.3 acres to the permit area. The total area will be 47.7 acres once the application is approved. The proper
mine identification sign was in place and so was the public notice sign for the new conversion application.
Mining of the 9.4 acres appears to be complete; the eastern pit slope appeared to be greater than a 3:1 horizontal
to vertical ratio. All the other pit slopes appear to be at 3:1 or less. The conversion will add acreage to the east
and to the south of the current pit excavation. The new permit area will encompass a fairly large prc-law
disturbance. The pre-law disturbance consisted of several excavated areas and various plies of illatcrial, some
of'which could be topsoil. The majority of the area looks like it has not been disturbed in a long time except by
cattle grazing. Several other pre-law disturbances lie south and cast of the proposed permit area.
The southern boundary line of the luttlre permit area was delineated with tires that had been placed halfway into
the ground. The southeast corner boundary marker was not in place. The entire northern boundary line was not
delineated with any markers or monuments. Prior to mining, the boundary markers must clearly be delineated
with it pcnnailent marker or numunlcnt pursuant to Rule 3.1.12 (2).
One harbed wire fence runs along the proposed eastern permit boundary. It was not listed in Exhibit S of the
Permanent Man-made Structures on or within 200 feet of the permit area. The operator will need to obtain the
proper structure damage agreement with the owner of the fence or if this agreement cannot be obtained, the
operator must submit gco-technical stability exhibit for the pernlit anlendnlent application. This is pursuant to
Rule 6.4.19.
The current vegetation that was established on the site was a mixture of grasses, (orbs, sage and yucca. Signs of
extensive grazing were noticed on the site.
Mr. Dawson explained that he is currently negotiating a lease agreement with the landowner to expand the pit.
excavation

permit boundary
