Cattany <br />Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, <br />Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 18, 2008, an application to revise coal mining operations at the <br />Bowie No. 1 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources, LLC. <br />All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Bowie Resources, LLC is proposing to drill two exploration holes, which will determine if the old mine workings are flooded and <br />will assist in the determination of the remaining coal reserves within the Bowie No. 1 Mine permit area. The project involves <br />upgrading approximately 1.1 miles of light use road, constructing 0.1 miles of new road and the construction of two drill pads. <br />Drill rig and crew access will be from SH 133 to Stevens Gulch Road. The new and upgraded light use roads and two drill pads <br />will disturb approximately 2.3 acres. Reclamation will consist of restoring the drill pads, narrowing the upgraded road, <br />reclaiming the new road, and seeding, The Bowie No. 1 Mine portals will not be reactivated. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles North of Paonia, Colorado. The permit area is <br />further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 1-3, 10-15, and 22-25, Township 13 South, Range 92 West of the 6th P.M. <br />Portions of Sections 5-8, 17-19, and 29-32, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Bowie and Gray Reservoir. <br />The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. At the time of <br />publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at the Paonia Public Library, <br />140 Grand Avenue, Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen <br />(15) days of this letter.
