West Elk Mine <br />• well-defined in this reach and a suitable location was not found until reaching the Minnesota <br />Canal and Reservoir Company's Parshall flume (see Map 34). MCC retrofitted the flume with a <br />continuous recorder and added this station to the monitoring program as part of Technical <br />Revision No. 88 in 1999. MCC installed a new Parshall flume equipped with a continuous <br />recorder above Minnesota Creek Reservoir in 2006. This station will be located at the upper end - <br />of the reservoir above the high water line. <br />Flow in the North Fork is measured by a USGS gage near Somerset (09132500). The gage is <br />located immediately upstream of the West Elk Mine site (see Map 34). <br />MCC began collecting baseline monitoring data (flow and water quality) at the existing <br />rectangular weir on Deep Creek Ditch located at the Deep Creek water conveyance flume in <br />2006. The weir is equipped with a continuous recorder that operates during the irrigation season <br />when the ditch carries water from Little Gunnison Creek. <br />MCC began collecting baseline monitoring for flow and water quality within the Deer Creek and <br />Poison Gulch channels in 2005. Baseline data were collected monthly from April 2005 through <br />November 2005. MCC will continue to collect hydrologic data from these sites during the three <br />normal sampling periods (rising limb, peak flow, and low flow). As these are ephemeral streams, <br />MCC obtains flow measurements using portable measuring devices when flow is present. <br />Copies of all raw and processed data from the gaging stations are maintained on file at MCC's <br />i offices for public inspection during normal business hours. Annual reports for the stream gaging <br />stations are furnished to the CDRMS in the Annual Hydrology Reports. These reports include <br />monthly measurements of streamflows for each gaging station with maximum, minimum and <br />mean flows reported. A substantial streamflow database now exists. Representative streamflow <br />records are contained in Exhibit 18A. <br />Stream Quality <br />The current stream water quality monitoring program is summarized in Table 9 and the <br />monitoring locations are shown on Map 34. As a result of Technical Revision No. 54 (TR-54), <br />water quality monitoring of surface stations in the Minnesota Creek drainage were reduced until <br />mining progresses into that area. For new stations or those at which monitoring is reinstituted, <br />water quality data will be collected following the baseline monitoring schedule outlined in Table <br />10. After baseline data have been collected for one year, monitoring will continue on a seasonal <br />basis, with annual, full-suite laboratory analyses for approximately five years and then the sites <br />will be sampled for limited laboratory analyses, as more completely presented in Section 2.05.6, <br />and Exhibit 71. <br />.7 <br />2.04-87 Revised Alovember 2004 PR10, March 2006; Rev.
