C. The underground workings maps provided with the application shows most of the
• workings to be located in the North East portions between the Eclipse and Carbonate Green
and very small amounts of workings in the southern portions of the valley leach expansion
areas. The Chicago Tunnel, a small 110 permit (M-1988-026) owned by CC&V and currently
being used by a sub contractor to CC&V as equipment storage area, is located west of the
North Cresson mine expansion area. Where is the underground extension of the tunnel
workings in relation to the North Cresson Mine extension? What impacts does CC&V
expect from the mining activities proposed in these areas? Please explain. What about
impacts to the Molly Kathleen Tourist Mine located northwest of the North Cresson Mine?
Response:
The underground extension of the Chicago Tunnel ends approximately 25-50 feet inside of the
designed North Cresson surface mine. There is no discharge from the Chicago Tunnel portal
and the Portal area has been reclaimed and backfilled for over 3 years. Very little impact is
expected from intercepting the Chicago Tunnel as it is dry and is expected to be reasonably
competent. Similar underground working within the Main Cresson and East Cresson surface
mines remain intact and are not impediments to surface mining.
No impacts to the Mollie Kathleen underground working are expected to result from mining
in the North Cresson mine. The Mollie Kathleen workings are approximately 1,300 feet
north-northwest of the designed North Cresson mine and there are no direct connections.
CC&V has initiated a blast monitoring program both at the surface and in underground
• workings at the Mollie Kathleen to assess potential blasting impacts as CC&V activities move
closer to that facility. CC&V will stay in close contact with the Mollie Kathleen management
as the North Cresson mining progresses. CC&V will complete a pre-blast survey of the
Mollie Kathleen facilities prior to initiating mining in the North Cresson mine area.
D. All road alignments required under this amendment and interchange upgrades to County
Road 82,821 and highway 67 will require a written approval from the County and CDOT.
Please provide the approval letters for our records, once obtained.
Response.
CC&V is currently working on final designs and associated agreement with Teller County
and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for these road upgrades. Once approval
written letters are received from the County and CDOT for the CR 82, CR821 and SH 67
improvements/upgrades, copies of those approval letters will be forwarded to DRMS.
E. On Drawing C-5 (Conceptual Mining Phases), the only area being proposed as alternative
overburden storage area is the area designated as Squaw Gulch overburden storage
extension area by the year 2011. It is not clear from the maps or description what the
proposed final contours will be for this area. The currently approved final topography will
not allow the operator's over all elevation to exceed 10,600 feet. As noted in drawing C-4
and F-1, elevations appear to exceed the allowable limit under AM-08, Is CC&V requesting
. an increase in height by approximately 35 feet to 10,635? Please explain.
Response:
9
