Cattany <br /> <br />Trinidad <br />CO 81082 <br />Director <br />Division <br />, Natural Resource Trustee <br />Re: Proposed Decision <br />Permit Renewal Application No. 2 (RN-2) <br />Lorencito Canyon Mine (Permit No. C-1996-084) <br />Dear Las Animas County Commissioners: <br />This letter is to inform you that the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety is proposing to approve <br />with conditions a renewal application for a coal mining and reclamation permit. The application was submitted by <br />New Elk Coal Company, LLC on May 11, 2007, for the Lorencito Canyon Mine. Only reclamation operations are <br />proposed for approval under this permit renewal. <br />Any person with an interest which may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may request a formal hearing <br />before the Mined Land Reclamation Board within 30 days of the first publication of this notice by the Division in <br />the The Chronicle - News. <br />The Surface mine is located approximately 3 miles west of Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further <br />described as follows: <br />Lands south of the Purgatorie River, lands east of Cow Canyon, lands north of the Puertecito Canyon, and lands <br />west of Little Jeff Canyon, covering approximately 3,142 acres. <br />Copies of the renewal application are available for public review in the Division offices at the above address and at <br />the Las Animas County Clerk and Recorder.
