Peabody
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
subsequently in compliance with applicable CDPS effluent limitations, or discharge to existing
transfer pipeline.
• (Action) Pump water from underground collection system near seals to surface via existing Ditch
D-2 and Mine Portal Sump
• (Action) Complete I ORT Dewatering Borehole No. 2 installation, including installation of pump
and pipeline connection to existing IORT waterline (MR08-228), which can feed to either the
Barricade Chamber/FCM-2 location or to the 6MN mine water storage and handling system
• (Action) Temporarily place coal fines slurry in existing permitted Area 1 Pit Coal Refuse Disposal
Area, and decant water to the Area 1 Pit
• (Modification) Install new 6" HDPE pipeline from Mine Portal Sump to Area 1 Pit (approximately
1,000') and transfer any overflow from Area 1 Pit to Pond D for discharge through permitted
Outfall 005. Pipeline will be installed across the Coal Storage Stockpile area and yard, and will
not require any new disturbance.
• (Modification) Install new 12" HDPE pipeline from Fish Creek water treatment facility to Area 1
Pit (approximately 16,900'), allowing water to be transferred from the Fish Creek location (either
from treatment pond or new ventilation shaft pump installation) to the Area 1 Pit. Any overflow
from the Area 1 Pit could then be transferred to Pond D for discharge through permitted Outfall
005. Pipeline will be installed in existing pipeline and road corridors, and will not require any
new disturbance
• (Modification) Install new 12" HDPE pipeline from Barricade Chamber/FCM Well Casing to
connect with new Fish Creek pipeline (approximately 9,100') allowing water to be transferred
from the TORT Dewatering Boreholes to the Area 1 Pit, with transfer of any overflow from the
Area 1 Pit to Pond D for discharge through permitted Outfall 005. Pipeline will be installed in
existing pipeline and road corridors, and will not require any new disturbance
(Modification) Install new 12" HDPE pipeline from TORT valve installation to existing railroad
culvert for discharge to Foidel Creek through permitted Outfall 001 (General Permit for Coal
Mining Facilities (Permit No. COG-850000, Facility No. COG -850048). Pipeline installation
will involve approximately 3,600' of new disturbance
TCC anticipates that discharge from multiple sources may require water treatment to meet applicable
effluent standards. We are currently pursuing portable (skid or trailer-mounted) treatment systems that
could be brought-in and installed quickly to operate on a temporary basis to address current mine
dewatering needs, with the potential for conversion to a long-term treatment installation. It is anticipated
that longer-term water treatment will be necessary, and TCC is also pursuing and evaluating the available
options. For both immediate and future water treatment, TCC anticipates that any ground-disturbing
option will be addressed through a separate revision submittal(s).
G:\Environmental\REVISION\MINOR-RV\MR08-230 Mine Dewatering Modifications\MR08-230 Mine Dewatering
Modifications TL.doc
