2005 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report
3. West Ridge BRU: Topsoiled
The West Ridge BRU: Topsoiled encompasses approximately 22 acres. The pre-
disturbance vegetation communities were 83% snowberry/sage and 17% oak mountain
shrub.
Sample adequacy for herbaceous cover was obtained in this unit with 15 transects. The
reclaimed unit's mean herbaceous vegetation cover was 55.1%. This is significantly
higher than the mean for the reference area (24.1%). Thus, the West Ridge BRU:
Topsoiled exceeds the liability release standard for herbaceous cover.
Sample adequacy for production was obtained in this unit with 15 transects. Mean
herbaceous production was 126.5 g/m2 or 1128.8 Ibs/ac. This is significantly higher than
the mean for the reference area of 80.2 g/m2. Thus, the West Ridge BRU: Topsoiled
exceeds the liability release standard for herbaceous production. See Tables 3-4 and 3-
5 for absolute and relative over data for this unit
As shown in Table 3-3, there were six plant species with a minimurfi ,of 3% and
maximum of 40% relative cover present in this unit. Because more i five species
were present in this unit, the combined relative importance require mVn?t., automatically
satisfied. Thus, the West Ridge BRU: Topsoiled meets the liability,,0 teas quirements
for diversity.
3.1.
