One site, 5GN1102, has been recorded within the project area
boundary. This site has been recommended as not eligible based on a field assessment and no official
determination of eligibility has been made for the site. The map that was provided appears to show
that this site is located within the proposed operation's area of potential effects (APE). Proposed
mining activities should avoid adverse effects to 5GN1102 until it can be reevaluated and an official
determination of eligibility can be made with respect to this site. If site avoidance is not possible, we
recornmend further consultation with our office in order to identify options to avoid, minimize, or
mitigate the adverse effect to this and any other sites within the project's APE.
Since there is Federal agency involvement in this project, please note that it is the responsibility of
the Federal agency to meet the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation
Act as set forth in 36 CFR 800 ("Protection of Historic Properties"). This includes the identification
of any historic properties (i.e. cultural resources which are eligible for or are listed in the NRHP)
within the area of potential effects and determining whether the undertaking will have an effect
upon such properties. The State Historic Preservation Office, Native American tribes,
representatives of local governments, and applicants for Federal permits, licenses or other approval
are entitled to consultative roles in this process.
1300 BROADWAY DENVER COLORADO 80203 TEL 303/866-3395 FAx 303/866-2711 www.coloradohistory-oahp.org
