Page 8
September 2, 2008
bedrock aquifers in the canyon and how they are interrelated. Water at the Lumsden Canyon Mouth
site is interpreted as a mixture of waters from numerous sources, some of which have not been
physically delineated or quantified.
RECONLWENDATIONS
WWL recommends the following activities be conducted during the Fall 2008 hydrologic
reconnaissance:
• Traverse Lumsden Canyon from the Whirlwind Mine to the mouth of the canyon. This
traverse will focus on the identification of potential spring sources in the lower canyon,
downgradient of Whirlwind and Packrat Mine. In addition, the physical extent of the alluvial
aquifer and its relationship to bedrock will be assessed as well as the hydrogeologic
implications of Lumsden Fault.
• Traverse the receiving drainage of treated mine water downstream from the mine. This
traverse will explore the fate of the treated mine water.
• Traverse the discharge of PR Spring and the noted drainage below the Packrat Mine dump.
This traverse will explore the fate of PR Spring discharge.
• Repeat the traverse conducted in June 2008 to assess potential seasonal affects with regard to
potential groundwater discharge and surface water flows.
• Revisit DP Spring area to further evaluate the hydrogeologic source area upstream of the stock
tank.
• Revisit Whirlwind Mine to assess seepage rates and locations.
• Repeat sampling at the sample locations used in June 2008 and possibly others identified
during the above traverses.
• Conduct hydrogeologic reconnaissance of the Packrat Mine when the mine becomes safe to
enter.
WWL will conduct the fall reconnaissance preferably after leaf-fall when evapotranspiration rates are
expected to be low and visibility may be better for ground mapping.
Please contact me at 242-0170 to discuss any questions or comments that you may have.
Sincerely,
s
WESTERN WATER & LAND, INC.
Bruce D.
