She researched our files, but couldn't find anything indicating that a permit transfer
application that was assigned the number SO-01 was ever actually formally submitted or approved.
Johanna did find a letter on Dorchester Coal Company letterhead dated 9/23/81 that was sent to the "Director,
Department of Natural Resources", and signed by "Gerald Stephen, Safety Technician". This letter stated, "Dear
Sir, In the process of updating our files, I have noticed that no formal change has been made on the operators
name. The initial permit #79-39 ug/c was issued to Dorchester Colomine Coal as specified in a letter written by
Rade Orell on July 9, 1979. The name is hereby changed to Dorchester Coal Company. If you have any
questions, please contact me."
We seem to have no scanned record of actually starting an SO application process, or of approving the name
change, around this time (the first permanent program application was submitted in February of 1981 by
Dorchester Coal Company, so the apparent company name change had apparently already occurred by then).
There may be some information in Archives regarding this early company name change/SO. Would you like us to
pull our archived files to see what we can find?
Dan
9/8/2008
