Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted by Marcia Talvitie and
Sandy Brown of the Colorado DRMS on Monday, 25 August 2008. No representative of
the operator was present during the inspection.
Signs and Markers
Mine and permit identification signs were displayed at the County Road access, in
accordance with Section 4.02.2.
Roads
The roads were dry and passable throughout the permit area, although there was
evidence that a relatively recent precipitation event had occurred. Evidence consisted
of vehicle tracks left in the portion of the access road that becomes slippery with
moisture, and in the steep roadside ditch that follows the road's descent to Pond B.
Hydrologic Balance
Pond A was completely dry. Pond B continued to hold water, but the level had dropped
since the July inspection.
Topsoil
Topsoil piles were protected by fence and clearly identified with signs. Cheat grass is
abundant on the pile located southwest of Pond A.
Reclamation Success
Weeds previously identified as "Whitetop" around the perimeter of Pond A were
determined instead to be Perennial Pepperweed.
Hamilton Mine C-1991-078 25-Aug-2008
