Conclusions
Avast majority of sites observed in this report have made observable vegetative
improvement between 2000 and 2008. Invasion by native species such as Gambel oak,
serviceberry, snowberry, sagebrush and chokecherry is taking place, especially along
disturbed edges and in some cases on site interiors. Invasion by noxious weeds such as
Canada thistle is also occurring.
Please refer to: Table 1: RATING FOR EACH PHOTO-POINT BY YEARS 2000 AND
2008, for a summary of each site visited. While the rating method is somewhat
subjective, it nevertheless shows trends which may be useful for the current and future
reclamation programs in this area.
All sites rated improved over the past 8 years with exception of:
JMB-7. This site had a rating of "Good" both years and was grazed extensively.
RAV 10/(X)/MDW 14-01, 02, 15-04A. This site was re-disturbed and
subsequently reclaimed in 2002. It rated "Good+" in 2000 and "Good" in 2008.
RAV 1(L) MDW 23-06, 07, 07A. This site was re-disturbed and subsequently
reclaimed in 2006. It rated "Fair" both years, but has only had 2 growing seasons
since last reclamation. This site should rate "Good" by the spring of 2009.
In 2008, overall ratings show all reclaimed sites to have ratings of either Good or
Excellent with exception of:
JMB-1, which is heavily grazed.
JMB-4, which is heavily grazed.
RAV-1 (L) MDW 23-06, 07, 07A mentioned above.
RAV-6 (L-Alt) MDW 23-06 which was also re-disturbed and subsequently
reclaimed in 2006. This site should rate "Good" by the spring of 2009.

47
