Spring 2008 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
the eastern part of mined Lon-wall Panel 21 (Location S of' this report) and to continuC
Aiscrvations of the areas above Long wall Panels 19 and 20.
The location has hlStorlCally hCCn uSCCI to oh,CrvC and photnLraph ,uhsidcncC effects on the Ca,t
r ?
U
side of Box C anvon ahove Illllled Longwall Panels 11) and 20. (HOLlre 27) Shows that some new
rockfall/landslide activity has occurred in the Ielt CCnual pOrtion of the photograph (Compare
with Figure 28). The reason for the new activity IS difficult to assess, but hcheved to he at least
partially related to alining activities given that the area in under the Lon?gwall Panel 11) tailgate
and an area of, increased tensile strain. This area IS !tlso considered a Iltc(liunl to very hi"h
rockfall hai.ard area 00ap 3).
Figure 27. Spring 2008 northward view of the rockfall/landslide area above mined Longwall Panel
19. A comparison to prior photographs taken of this area from this vantage point shows that there
has been some additional activity (note the fresh looking scarp rock outcrop adjacent to two large
pine trees in left central portion of the photograph).
C]
831-032.790 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
