Sampling and Analysis Plan
L3, MWP 2-13G, MWP 2-L3, and MWP 2-WS will be located as shown in Appendix A, Exhibit
A.2. Groundwater monitoring activities will be conducted in accordance with procedures and
protocols designed to ensure collection of high-quality, defensible monitoring data. The
procedures and protocols addressed in this section include monitoring schedule, monitoring
equipment, and monitoring procedures (water-level measurement and water-quality sampling).
3.1 Monitoring Schedule
Baseline groundwater quality will be established by measuring water levels and collecting
groundwater samples for a minimum of five quarters from each of the four monitoring wells
discussed above. The monitoring frequency may be adjusted as appropriate for the operations
and post-operations phases of the project based on results of the baseline study and operational
parameters and schedules.
3.2 Monitoring Equipment
The following equipment and supplies are anticipated for use to conduct the groundwater
monitoring program:
• Water level indicator
• Electric submersible pump(s) (ranging in size from 1 to 5 horsepower)
• Electronic pressure transducers or in situ data logging instruments
• Portable generator and all-weather electric cables
• Wellhead discharge piping assembly with sample port
• Discharge hoses to convey purge water to discharge pit, aboveground tank, or truck-
mounted tank
• In-line totalizing flow meter and/or bucket and stop watch for discharge measurement
• Field instruments for measurement of pH, conductivity and temperature, oxidation-
reduction potential (ORP), and dissolved oxygen
• Handheld photoionization detector for multi-gas monitoring
• Analytical laboratory supplied sample bottles
American Shale Oil, LLC 4
