Sampling and Analysis Plan
any (Appendix A, Exhibit A.1). At a minimum, one site will be established on each drainage
downgradient of the Tract. The location of monitoring sites will be selected following
completion of access agreements with affected landowners. The sites will be marked with in the
field, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) location of each site will be recorded. Each time
the site is visited for monitoring, the GPS location will be affirmed.
This section describes the general surface-water sampling and flow-measurement methods to be
used, including monitoring schedule, monitoring equipment, collection procedures,
decontamination procedures, and flow measurement procedures.
2.1 Monitoring Schedule
For the baseline monitoring program, surface water samples and flow measurements will be
collected on a quarterly (once every 3 months) basis from all sampling sites described in this
SAP. Sampling frequency may be modified in the future to accommodate baseline, operations,
and post-operations phases of the project, or other monitoring programs. If no flow is present
during a sampling event, the field records will indicate a "no flow" condition.
2.2 Monitoring Equipment
The monitoring equipment typically will include the following items: field instruments for the
measurement of pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential,
and stream flow; laboratory-supplied sample bottles; sample labels; sample container (insulated
cooler); ice; sample preservatives; peristaltic pump; new sterile pump tubing; 0.45 micron filters;
bound field logbook; Surface-Water Monitoring Forms; chain-of-custody forms; and all other
items necessary for sample collection and documentation per industry-accepted protocols.
Stream discharge (flow) measurement will be conducted by the use of volumetric collection
(bucket and stop watch); or with a mechanical propeller-type, electronic, or electromagnetic flow
meter. Other methods and equipment may be used as necessary.
American Shale Oil, LLC 2
