III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a Complete inspection conducted by Janet Binns of Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety. The mine is a reclaimed surface mine. The weather was hot, windy and clear. The Mine site
and Load Out were very dry.
Roads: The mine access road is dry and continues to be accessible. No recent activity was apparent on
the mine site. No sign of well sealing activity was observed.
Load out: Access road to the load out was in good condition.
Hydrologic Balance: Ponds A, B, D, E and F at the mine site were observed. None of the ponds were
discharging. Pond A was nearly dry, with a small pool of water in the bottom. Pond B held a fair pool
of water as did pond D, but both were well below discharge elevation. Pond E was almost dry. Pond F
was dry with the bottom of the pond well vegetated.
The Load Out pond had a small pool of water and was very weed choked but was not discharging.
Reve etg ation: The vegetation throughout the mine site was dry but in good condition. Few weedy
species were noted and none in any concentration of concern. Vegetation appears stable and in good
condition.
Load out: vegetation at the loadout remains good, with good cover. The site is dry and grasses have
dried down.
Wildlife: A small herd (-6 head) of Pronghorn were observed running and grazing on the reclamation
(720)pit.
Records: Records are stored at NWCC offices in Steamboat Springs. Records were found to be
complete and include the required information. Availability of Records form accompanies this
inspection. When records are received at NWCC,they are placed in the file drawer but not filed in the
appropriate files. Checking records requires looking through the stack of recently received
correspondence in addition to the individual topic folders.
SL4 remains in suspense pending the sealing of the boreholes. Sealing had not yet been accomplished at
the time of the inspection.
3 of 4 WHITE-File YELLOW-Operator PINK-Specialist
