(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-19AI-tag
INSPECTION DATE: ii iv io gong INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: nR9
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by David Bird of DRMS as result of Succession of Operator notices filed for mines
owned by Robinson Brick Company for transfer of ownership to General Shale Brick, Inc. Present during the
inspection were Greg Knell and Jason McGraw of Robinson Brick. The site is located just southeast of the West
Alameda Parkway overpass at highway C-470 in Jefferson County.
Material mined at this site consists of clay that is ultimately used to produce brick. The rock is generally poorly
consolidated but occasional blasting, if needed, is handled by an independent contractor.
The mine operates on the same schedule as Robinson's other properties. Rock is excavated during a
"campaign", a period of several weeks to months during which material is stripped from the pit and stockpiled
on site for later removal and transport to processing facilities for production of bricks. Removal of the product
occurs intermittently, over time frames up to several years, as dictated by market demands.
As with other Robinson properties, various product stockpiles are on site from which material is drawn
periodically. There is standing water in the pit floor that appears to be derived from ground water, and the
operator says that the necessary permit application has been filed with OSE. Operator recently constructed a
new storm water catchment. There was some activity at the time of the inspection, with importation of inert fill
that had been properly noticed to the Division in 2004.
The site is clean and maintained in good condition. Signs and markers are adequate, storm water controls
appear to be functioning properly, no erosional issues are apparent, noxious weed problems are minimal, and
impacts to the hydrologic balance have been appropriately handled.
The financial warranty of $315,000 currently on file is adequate.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Marvin Myers, Jr.
OPERATOR: General Shale Brick.
