Compliance
with Federal The West Elk Mine discharges surface water only to the North Fork of the Gunnison River. No WET test failures occurred at outfall 017. The data contained in the
pertain to 4.05.1(3) DMRs appear consistent with field observations made during CDRMS's inspections.
discharges of
surface water
F. Calculated Table Value Standards for instream metal concentrations are shown in Tables
A-4 and A-5 of West Elk's discharge permit (CDPS permit CO-0038776). West Elk discharges
surface runoff and/or mine water to segments 2 and 6 via CDPS outfalls. CWQCD based effluent
limitations at these outfalls on values that would not cause exceedances of instream standards. West
Elk had no exceedances of CDPS limitations in 2007. West Elk's compliance with its effluent
limitations in 2007 indicates the instream standards probably were not exceeded as a result of surface
G. Instream CWQCC water discharges. Monitoring data from the North Fork at a location immediately downstream from
Numeric regulation yes
the mine (page C-2 of 2007 AHR) indicates Instream Numeric Standards were not exceeded on
Standards 3.3.0 segments 2 and 6.
