Cattany
Paonia, Colorado 81428 Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Bowie No. 2 Mine, Permit No. C-96-083, Bowie Resources LLC
Technical Revision No. 55, Haul Road Curve No. 11 Repair, Adequacy Review
Dear Mr. Bear:
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) has finished its adequacy review of
Bowie Resources LLC's (BRL) submittal of Technical Revision No. 55 (TR-55) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine.
The Division agrees with BRL that the activities proposed in TR-55 do not warrant a revision of the
reclamation cost estimate. The following are the Division's questions and comments:
May 15-5
Plan View
1) The French drain pipe crosses beneath the reconstructed road, and then follows the slope as it
drops to the B-Seam Portal bench. No mention is made of the amount of flow anticipated from the French
drain. Neither has any information been provided regarding where the flow goes, once it reaches the bench
below.
Please provide the Division with an estimate of the amount of flow anticipated to emanate from the
French drain system, and a description of how the flow is handled, once it reaches the B-Seam Portal
Bench.
2) The cover letter for the TR-55 application (dated 09 July 2008) makes reference to approximately
8,000 cubic yard of cut and fill activity which will occur on the slope face. Typical Section D (Map 5-16)
provides a cross sectional view, but the cut and fill area is not clearly delineated in the Plan View (although
it can be inferred by the form of the contour lines). Nor is the B-Seam Portal Bench identified in the plan
view.
Please delineate the lateral extent of the proposed re grading of the slope between the road and the B-
Seam Portal Bench, and clearly label the B-Seam Portal Bench as such.
Haul Road Typical Section
3) The color of the Existing Ground line is yellow, which is difficult to see.
Please change the color of the Existing Ground to something more visible, preferably red, which
represents Existing Ground in most of the other views.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
