0 0
Excavation in Phase 3 will proceed from the south to the north
and will minimize disturbance to most of the vegetation existing
around what was the old mining area. However, some patches
of oak habitat will be eliminated by.the vegetation.
Areas of terrestrial vegetation that are disturbed during mining
operations will be reclaimed by re-contouring the disturbed
areas, ripping the compacted areas and re-planting., Much of
the area in Phase 3 was disturbed previous to Gosney and Sons
operations, so the exact number of stems removed or grassy areas
disturbed is not known. Gosney and Sons will replace lost trees
of caliper greater than 3 inches from the area to be newly mined
in Phases 2 6 3 at a ration of 1:1 with trees of 2" caliper
or greater. We anticipate planting aproximately 15-20 trees
and 90-50 shrubs (varieties listed below), as well as the
requisite reclamation grasses. Native and non-native species
of trees, shrubs, and grasses will be primarily used for
reclamation and will include (depending on availability):
Trees: cottonwood, box elder, ash.
Shrubs: serviceberry, willow, chokecherry, hawthorne,
buffaloberry, rose.
Grasses: western wheat grass, blue gramma, fescue, timothy,
Piute orchard, perennial rye, medium red clover.
Ponds and Shorelines:
The existing pond (Phase 2), proposed pond ( if Phase 3
interrupts groundwater) and surrounding shorelines will be
reclaimed with the objectives of enhancing wildlife habitat
and stabilizing banks in order to avoid erosion. However the
practicality of implementing reclamation measures will also
be considered.
The following are measures for enhancing and creating wildlife
habitat (especially waterfowl).
water Quality
In order to support fish and other aquatic organisms, the
following parameters will be maintained within the range of
limits indicated.
Tested/
Parameter - Range- Existing
pH 6.5 to 9.0 7.90
alkalinity min. of 20 mg/L UNK
hardness 20-150 mg/L UNK
dissolved oxygen min. of 5 mg/L UNK
total dis. solids correlated with prod. 250 mg/L
temperature max 20-30° C, dep on var.
species
suspended solids 1.8 mg/L
The maintenance of water quality is in the best interests of
Gosney and Sons, Inc as the quality of its ready mix products
depends on it. Periodic water sampling in the pond and at
the discharge point have produced clean results to date.
3 Hearing on Permit No. M-1987-038
BayfieA Pit No. 1
