Exhibit D- Mining Plan
The area to be mined is approximately two miles south of
Hayfield and lies on the alluvial plains above the Los Pinos
River at an elevation of approximately 6,750 feet. The site
affected is an existing gravel pit that has been mined
intermittenly since about the 1940's. Historically, the site
was mined relatively shallow, averaging about five to seven
feet in depth. The present operation to the south has created
a lake over much of the affected area. Exhibit G provides some
additional discussion regarding the hydrology of the site.
The new amended area will be mined in basically three
phases as illustrated on the Amended Exhibit C map. The
anticipated direction of mining and location of stockpiles is
also portrayed on this map. The four previous phases of mining
that have been permitted will have no changes. The area being
added to this permit boundary area is located to the north of
the original boundary lines. The new area will be mined in
basically three phases, Phases 5, 6, and 7 moving from the west
to the east as is shown on the amended Pre-mining and Mining
Plan Map. It is anticipated that the new phases may also
encounter groundwater. In that situation, a pond of approximately
10.04 acres may be created.
Product stockpiles, some processing and topsoil stockpiling
will probably occur in the Phase 5, 6, & 7 areas during the
remainder of the Amended permit. Refer to the Exhibit C map
illustrating the anticipated location of various mining-related
features. It is planned that most of the mining in the existing
pit will occur primarily during the months of March through
September with some year round work and that the pit will be
wet mined using a front end loader and trackhoe, if groundwater
is exposed. Otherwise, the pit will be mined dry. If the depth
of water makes it ultimately impractical to mine using this
type of equipment, a small dragline may be used.
-Th-e Yi-fe oath-s= -sect=foci of- the
is estimated to be from about 5 to 7
of mining will depend on the changing
The best current estimate for phasing
operation is provided as follows:
total Gosney gravel pit
years; the actual rate
g demand for materials.
g of this section of the
Phase and Acreage
Phase 5 = 2.70 acres
Phase 6 = 3.96 acres
Phase 7 = 3.38 acres
Mining period
2.5 years
2.5 years
2 years
Hearing on Permit No. M-1987-038
Bayfield Pit No. 1
