141.1 OFFICE of ARCHAEOLOGY and HISTORIC PRESERVATION
August 8, 2008
Michael P. Boulay
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety RECEIVED
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203 AUG .1,2 2008
,.
Re: Redcliff Mine (Permit No. C-2008-086) Division of Reclamation,
New Permit Application Mining and Safely
Dear Mr. Boulay,
Thank you for your correspondence dated July 3, 2008 (received by our office on July 7,
2008; accompanying cultural resource report received July 15, 2008) regarding the subject
project.
After review of the information submitted, we are unable to complete our review of your
project under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. We request that the
following discrepancies be resolved so that we may complete our review:
• The scope of the project (and thus the project's area of potential effect) is unclear.
The cover letter indicates that the proposed mine permit area is located within the
following sections: All of Sections 27, 28, 33, and 34, Township 7 South, Range 102
West, 6`h P.M.; and all of Sections 2 and 3, and portions of Sections 4, 9, 10, 15, 16,
17, 18, and 19, Township 8 South, Range 102 West, 6`h P.M. However, the
accompanying map provided only shows the proposed permit area as encompassing
all of Sections 27, 28, 33, and 34, Township 7 South, Range 102 West, 6`h P.M., and
all of Sections 2 and 3, and portions of Sections 4 and 10, Township 8 South, Range
102 West, 6`h P.M.
• The inventoried areas shown within the Class III Cultural Resource Inventory
reports provided do not appear to cover the proposed permit area shown in the
accompanying map, and do not match the location description- of the proposed
permit area that is provided in the cover letter.
Upon resolution of the discrepancies identified above we will be able to complete our review
of your project. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Shina duVall, Section 106
Compliance Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674 or shina.duvall9chs.state.co.us.
Sincerely,
rd C.
