the disposal facility. Methods for spill containment etc. will be
documented in a dedicated on site notebook for all mine site personnel.
Currently there are no activities on site, nor any fluids housed at the mine
therefore there is no potential for spills. In the future however, all fluids
will be documented/inventoried, properly stored and contained with spill
prevention procedures documented for mine site personnel access.
Similarly, all mine site personnel will be trained by the Mine site
environmental coordinator (K. King) in methods regarding spill
prevention and control prior to the onset of work, and several times per
year as needed.
f. Employee Education
GGI is held responsible for environmental compliance issues surrounding
the mine. GGI personnel are experienced in stormwater management
practice design and implementation (certifications obtained from CDOT
stormwater training from 2000 to present) and will be responsible for
oversight of property activities. Stormwater management practices will be
constantly monitored as part of the oversight in order to ensure their
continued maintenance.
Currently there are personnel working to rehabilitate the mine for
proposed future activities. GGI is in close communication with
representatives conducting the work, and has been able to construct the
documented bmps within this plan with the coordinated help of these
personnel. Until a static personnel presence is established at the site, GGI
is responsible for the activities described herein. However, once
conditions allow for mine activities and a consistent personnel presence to
establish themselves, GGI will train all site personnel in areas regarding
both spill prevention/control and stormwater management practices (and
good housekeeping practices). Each person associated with the site will
be trained prior to their work beginning at the site, and several times
during the year as needed as working conditions evolve. GGI personnel
will be onsite as a routine and will be held as the overall responsible
personnel for environmental site controls. The as-yet-unidentified
operations personnel are held responsible for good/safe mining practices
and will be trained by GGI personnel. GGI personnel will rely upon
standard guidance for metal mining stormwater controls as the premise for
site training, as well as other supplemental guidance by standard nonpoint
source control information.
GGI personnel are trained in various areas of nonpoint source pollution
control and have experience in training/education in these subject areas.
They have also had experience in the design and implementation of
stormwater bmps for a variety of industrial activities including highway
construction (C47/50 Colorado Springs), oil and gas drilling and pipeline
routing (Rifle), as well as abandoned mine lands construction/removal
activities (Lake County).
