STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
DATE: December 28, 2007
COLORADO
D I V I S ION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
TO: Jim Stark Harris D. Sherman
Executive Director
FROM: /Joe Dudash Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Bowie No. 2 e, Permit No. C-1996-083, Bowie Resources LLC
Technical Revision No. 52, Thirteen Gob Vent Bore Holes, Request
for Assistance
I am requesting your assistance in the review of the reclamation cost estimate for
Technical Revision No. 52 (TR-52) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. In TR-52, Bowie
Resources LLC (BRL) is proposing to drill thirteen gob vent bore holes. A total of 22.5
acres of disturbance are planned. Four of the drill pads will have two drill holes per pad,
so these pads will be larger than the other drill pads that will have only one drill hole per
pad. New light use road construction will be needed for eleven of the drill holes.
As explained in the TR-52 cover letter, these thirteen drill holes are planned to be drilled
over a three year time span. Therefore, BRL is requesting incremental bonding, which I
assume means bonding one year at a time since BRL separated the total bond for TR-52
into three separate bonds for years 2008, 2009 and 2010. I don't know if the Division is
willing to do this, as opposed to having three separate technical revisions, one for each
year. A stipulation would have to be attached to the TR-52 decision. I will talk to Sandy
about it.
As also explained in the TR-52 cover letter, BRL is requesting a bond credit of about
$12,000 since GVB-6F was not drilled in 2007 and, apparently, will never be drilled.
GVB-6F had been approved in MR-78.
Attached is one complete copy of the technical revision, which contains all of the
specifics. If you need any additional information, please let me know. Thanks for your
assistance.
Attachments
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
c:/word/bowie2/tr52bondmemo 1
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
