2. Exploration operations will be terminated during times when ruts on access roads
exceed 4" in depth, as determined by the authorizing officer.
3. For all newly disturbed areas, including, pads, pits and access roads, site specific
locations shall be selected to minimize soil cut and fill volumes. Additionally, these sites
will be located to avoid encroachment or interception of drainage channels (any defined
channel having a bottom width of 2 feet wide or greater), where possible.
4. On all road crossings of defined drainage channels, any needed cut and fills or other
channel modification will be at the minimum necessary to provide safe access across the
channel. All channel modifications will be fully reclaimed and stabilized during final
reclamation.
5. All equipment and vehicles will be confined to the approved access roads.
6. Any cleared trees will be stockpiled for use during reclamation.
7. Cross drains (dips, waterbars, etc) will be constructed on all access roads. Cross drain
design and spacing will be in accordance with the following guidelines.
Road Surface
Slope % Cross Drain
S acin ft:
2 200
2-4 100
4-5 75
>5 50
a. Cross drains should be located above breaks in vertical profile from shallow to
steep grades to prevent the shallow grade surface drainage from gaining velocity,
and erosive power on the steep grade.
b. Whenever possible cross drains should be located to release water on convex
slopes or other stable areas that will disperse water rather than channeling it.
c. Cross drains should be constructed with an outslope grade of 3 to 5 percent or
equal to the existing out-slope grade.
o To protect faded midget rattlesnake, do not harm or kill snakes unless human health or safety is at
risk.
o To reduce impacts to sensitive plants: A survey for sensitive plants is advised where drilling would
require the use of heavy equipment off the established roadway. To reduce impacts to sensitive
reptiles: Direct mortality to snakes in the project area should be avoided except when human safety is
a consideration. To reduce impacts to migratory birds: Direct mortality of migratory birds in
the project area should be avoided. No nests, eggs or individual birds will be harmed during
activities.
