Describe proposed surface excavations or other land disturbance, including roads,pits, <br /> trenches, waste piles, drill pads and collar areas of underground workings,ponds, etc... <br /> The following information,is presented in accordance with the requirements set <br /> forth in the NOI application Section III,5.and the Surface Use Plan required by <br /> BLM for the Application for Permit to Drill or Reenter. <br /> Site Location and Background <br /> The project site is located in,southern Rio Blanco County,approximately 27 miles west- <br /> northwest of the town of Rio Blanco,on a ridge between Ryan Gulch and Black Sulphur <br /> Creek at elevations ranging from 6,795 to 6,965 feet above mean sea level(Exhibit A.1). <br /> To access to the project site from the Town of Rifle,travel north on State Route 13 <br /> • approximately 19 miles to Rio Blanco County Road 5 (Piceance Creek Road). Turn left <br /> on County Road 5 and continue west approximately 24 miles to Rio Blanco County Road <br /> 26(Black Sulfur Creek Road). Turn left on County Road 26 and continue south <br /> approximately 5 miles to Rio Blanco County Road 85. Turn right on County Road 85 <br /> and continue west approximately 1.5 miles to the intersection of County Road 85 and an <br /> improved BLM road(BLM Road 101.9). Turn right on BLM Road 101.9 and continue <br /> approximately 1/4 mile to the project site boundary. The 160 acre lease comprises the <br /> eastern half of the southwest quarter of Section 21,and the western half of the southeast <br /> quarter of Section 21,Township 2 North,Range 98 East, Sixth Principal Meridian. <br /> The existing improved BLM Road 1019 diagonally crosses the project site,entering the <br /> site from the southwest and extending through the northeast corner of the site. An <br /> existing unimproved two-track road intersects the BLM road in the central portion of the <br /> site and extends north,crossing the northern site boundary. Motorized vehicle travel <br /> within the area in which the site is located is limited to existing roads. Existing roads are <br /> primarily used by oil and gas operators,ranchers,hunters,and recreationists. <br /> One existing drilling pad(referred to herein as"MWP-1")and an associated access road <br /> is located immediately west of the BLM road in the southern portion of the site(Exhibit <br /> A Figures A.2 and A.3). One existing monitoring well(Well ID 24-21 298-L3;referred <br /> to herein as"MWP-1 L3") is present on the drill pad. The drill pad,access road,and well <br /> were constructed by Shell Exploration&Production circa 2005. These features will be <br /> transferred to American Shale Oil,LLC(AMSO)and will be used to support testing <br /> • operations. <br /> 1 <br />
