URAVAN-BECK PROJECT DRILL SITE P-2 Page 4 of 6
NOTICE OF INTENT TO COMMENCE PROSPECTING
APPENDICES To NOI APPLICATION
NRCS data from Soil Survey C0675 - Parts of Montrose, Dolores, and San Miguel
Counties, 2008 lists the drill site as being in the Gladel-Bond-Rock outcrop complex (Map
Unit 45), 1 to 50 percent slopes. The NRCS data does not list any plant species for this map
unit, although vegetative production (dry weight) is estimated to be 50-300 pounds per acre
for Gladel soils and 200-600 pounds per acre for Bond soils.
Section IV. 3.
Soil depth ranges from 0-8 inches on the Gladel soils (sandy loam), and 0 to 16 inches on
the Bond soils (fine sandy loam to clay loam). Below the soil material is unweathered
bedrock derived from sandstone residuum.
Soil will be stripped to a 6 in. depth from a 20 ft. diameter area around each drill hole. Total
volume of topsoil stored per drill hole will be approximately 7.4 CY. Soil will be stored in one
pile for each drill fence, close to the drill holes.
Upon reclamation, any cuttings that do not fit back in the hole will be spread in an area up to
20 ft. in diameter around each drill hole with the backhoe. Topsoil will then be re-spread to
an average depth of 6 inches over the 20-ft. diameter area around each drill hole using the
backhoe.
Section IV. 4.
After geophysical logging, all holes will be backfilled with cuttings, concrete-plugged at 7 to
2 ft. below ground surface (bgs), and dirt-filled from 2 to 0 ft. bgs to meet Colorado
abandonment regulations as described in Chapter 5.4 of the DRMS hard rock regulations.
Any drill holes that have evidence of artesian flow will be plugged with a neat cement grout
or similar material to prevent any flow to the surface. Any hole that encounters an aquifer
will be sealed to prevent contamination of this aquifer using high quality sodium bentonite
gel specifically designed for use as an abandonment fluid. All dry holes will be backfilled
with cuttings, and plugged from 7 to 2 ft. bgs with a cement plug. The final two ft. to the
surface will be filled with remaining cuttings or dirt.
