STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203 C O L O RA D O

Phone: (303) 866-3567 D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
FAX: (303) 832-8106 MINING

SAFETY
DRMS INTERNAL MEMORANDUM
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
Harris D. Sherman
Executive Director
DATE: April 4, 2008 Ronald W. Cattany
TO: Sandy Brown Division Director
FROM: Dan Mathews Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Request For Review Assistance
Yoast Mine (Permit No. C-94-082)
TR-37 (Ownership and Control Updates, Designs for New Postmine
Channels, Revised Pond Sediment Modeling, Permanent Facility
Requests)
TR-37 for Yoast Mine was deemed complete today. The revision includes designs for
several new permanent channels that were apparently constructed in locations where
gullies had developed on the postmine landscape (I believe these are 3-IA, 4-2, 5-IA, 6-
2A, 6-4, and 7A), as well as certain other drainage modifications, and extensive
SEDCAD modeling revisions to reflect current conditions as pertaining to sediment pond
capacities and cleanout schedules.
In addition, the revision includes updates to the Adjudication File including ownership
and control changes, and requests for various existing features to be retained as
permanent structures (roads, ponds, exclosure fencing, etc.).
It appears that I will need review assistance from Johanna Cramer, for AVS check
associated with the owner/controller changes, and of course hydrology review for the
permanent channel designs, sediment modeling, and permanent impoundment
demonstrations. I will also need to request a cost estimate update to reflect costs
associated with the new permanent channel segments.
I assume Mike Boulay will be assigned the hydrology review, and Jim Stark the cost
estimate update.
Please forward this memo to Johanna, Mike, and Jim, (or other staff as you deem
appropriate). I would like review memos by April 30, 2008, if possible (30th day is
May 5, 2008).
Let me know if you have questions.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
