Page 2.
May 16, 2008
Any sediment ponds that may be constructed to control erosion and sediment deposition should be left
in place following reclamation as an additional water source for wildlife. In previous comments, the
DOW had recommended installing water guzzlers for a water source. However, after consulting with
the mine's environmental coordinators, it does not appear necessary to provide any additional water
sources on the mine.
4. Any leech or sediment ponds lined with plastic material or having steep slopes that would prevent
wildlife from escaping after incidental falls should be fenced to prevent access. An alternate solution is
to provide ladders or create a 3:1 slope to aid with escape.
5. Any new trash dumpsters or recycling areas should be made bear-proof to minimize conflicts with black
bears.
-If you have any further questions or comments, please contactTonya Sharp who is the local-District Wildlife
Manager at tonva.sharp@state.co.us or 719-227-5281. Our staff would be glad to visit with your office, the
project proponent or land planning agency to provide additional details.
Sincerely,
Shaun Deeney ?.
Area Wildlife Manager
xc: File
SE Regional Office
Tonya Sharp, DWM
