4 Static Water Measurement
A static water level measurement will be taken of the well to be sampled to determine the
height of the water column in the well. The static water level measurement will be used
to determine the amount of time for the pump to operate and remove a minimum of 3
boring volumes of water from the well. The static water level will be determined using
the following method.
The water level will be measured using an instrument designed specifically for water
level measurements with an electronic water level indicator. The name and model of the
instrument placed into the sampling field data sheet and logbook. Water level
measurements will be determined from a measuring point on the top of the protective
casing on the north side of the casing. Water level measurements will be made with an
accuracy of 0.01 feet. The water level indicator cable and probe will be decontaminated
prior to each use. Decontamination of the instrument will be done as follows:
• wear new, clean disposable gloves
• use a new, clean, lint free paper towel saturated on one half with an Alconox
and clean water mix and a distilled water on the other half
• unwind the water level indicator
• wipe the cable as the probe is rewound onto the spool with the paper towel
allowing the Alconox saturated half to come in contact with the cable first
• place the paper towel under the probe to catch rinse water and rinse the probe
with the Alconox water mixture followed by a distilled water rinse
Acquire the water level data using the following method:
• wear new, clean disposable gloves
• water level measurements will be made from the same measuring point on the
north side of the top of the steel protective casing
• the casing stickup will be measured at each sampling event and changes in
height of the steel casing above the ground surface will be noted in the
sampling field data sheet and logbook
• the sampler's name, date and time that the measurement is made will be
recorded in the sampling field data sheet and logbook
• The depth to water to the nearest 0.01 foot will be measured by lowering the
water level probe into the well
• the total depth of the well will not be measured due to the presence of a
submersible pump
5 Well Purging
The pump has two separate pump rates described by persons familiar with the pump and
the listed pump rate on the well permit. To assure that a minimum of 3 well casing
