meeting, and amended schedule will need to be included in the field trial design
application if warranted.
9. DRMS had noted certain apparent contradictions between conceptual goals described in the
General Revegetation Practices section of the application, and elements of the approved
revegetation plan, including use of aggressive introduced grasses in the seedmixes. BME
responded that the conceptual goals are not necessarily at odds with use of the introduced
grasses, given the very long time periods that comprise the frame of reference for the
discussion of successional processes under Item "a" of the General Revegetation Practices.
BME amended the subject permit section to include reference to potential benefits of using
Plateau or similar herbicides for cheatgrass suppression and control of cheatgrass seedbank in
topsoil stockpiles, and also included amended narrative regarding the possible need for use of
monocultures of highly competitive wheatgrasses in certain situations.
More specific details related to revegetation and management practices, as well as the
possible need for modification of success standards for areas subject to heavy cheatgrass
competition may be warranted, and these issues should be discussed with the relevant parties
at the on-site meeting. My recommendation would be that we consider this item to be
resolved for the purposes of TR-65, but note that a revision addressing further amendment of
the revegetation plan may be warranted following the site visit/meeting with BLM and DOW.
14. DRMS had requested clarification regarding sampling procedures, statistics and formulas
relevant to paired sampling [including modified sample adequacy formula, minimum sample
sizes (minimum number of paired observations), and modified t-test formula] in the amended
permit application (either as expanded text or as an appendix or attachment referenced in the
text).
The requested updates were provided. Item Resolved.
