New Horizon Mine: 2007 Vegetation Sampling for Phase 2 Bond Release
• future. Production measurements and summary statistics are shown in Table A8. Cover and
production estimates are summarized and compared in Table 2.
Table 2. Comparison of mean cover and production between the Irrigated Pasture reclaimed areas
eligible for Phase 2 bond release and the Irrigated Pasture reference area.
Irrigated Pasture Reclaimed Area,
Phase 2 Bond Release Irrigated Pasture Reference Area
Mean # of Sam les Mean # of Sam les
Cover (%) 85.3 15 68.6 15
Production (Ib/acre) 3,327.0 15 2,512.5 44
Conclusions:
Cover. The mean value in the Phase 2 reclaimed areas substantially exceeds the mean in the
reference area. No statistical comparison of the mean is possible. However, it appears that
cover in the Irrigated Pasture reclaimed areas now eligible for Phase 2 bond release only will
exceed the standard (reference area cover) for Phase 3 bond release in the future.
Production. The mean value in the Phase 2 reclaimed areas substantially exceeds the mean
in the reference area. No statistical comparison of the mean is possible. However, it appears
that production in the Irrigated Pasture reclaimed areas now eligible for Phase 2 bond release
only will exceed the standard (reference area production) for Phase 3 bond release in the future.
•
4.0 RESULTS: DRYLAND PASTURE
4.1 Drvland Pasture Reference Area
Cover measurements for each transect and summary statistics are shown in Table A4. We
completed 21 cover transects, and sample adequacy was demonstrated. Production data and
summary statistics are sown in Table A10. We sampled 49 plots without reaching sample
adequacy, due to the uneven production in the reference area.
4.2 Drvland Pasture Phase 2 Bond Release Area
Cover measurements for each transect and summary statistics are shown in Table A5. We
completed 23 cover transects, and sample adequacy was demonstrated.
Although not necessary to demonstrate adequacy for Phase 2 bond release, we measured
production in the Phase 2 bond release area, and compared cover and production in the
reclaimed area to values in the dryland pasture reference area, to determine the likelihood that
current Phase 2-eleigible reclaimed lands would meet Phase 3 revegetation requirements in the
future. Production measurements and summary statistics are shown in Table A11. We
sampled 31 plots and sample adequacy was demonstrated. Cover and production estimates
are summarized and compared in Table 3.
•
BIO-Logic Environmental 9
November 12, 2007
