• Post-Mine Conditions
Dryland Pasture - 2007 Cover Data
The vegetation data is from the report 2007 Vegetation Sampling for Phase 2 Bond
Release: Irrigated Pasture and Dryland Pasture.
9.7% Annual Fortis
0.8% Annual Grasses
15.4% Perennial Grasses
9.3% Perennial Fortis
0.0% Perennial Shrubs
25.8% Litter
Ground Cover (cover that contacts the surface) =Annual fortis + Annual Grasses +
Perennial Grasses + Litter
Ground Cover = 51.7%
Canopy Cover =Perennial Shrubs + Perennial Fortis
Canopy Cover = 9.3%
Using Table 3 and a canopy of 0% (short brush 0.5 meter in height) and the "G" canopy
• type, the chart of Figure 1 was developed. From this chart, a ground cover that contacts the
surface of 51.7% yields a "C" factor of 0.065. Since the actual canopy is 9.3%, another
chart was developed from the data in Table 2 showing the change in "C" factor versus
ground cover for a canopy of 25%. This is Figure 2, and using a ground cover that contacts
the surface of 51.7%, gives a "C" factor of 0.055. Since the actual canopy is 9.3%, a
simple interpolation is required to give the correct "C" factor:
0 "C" for canopv 0-25 = 0 "C" for canopy 0=9.3
25 9.3
0.01 = x x ~ 0.004
25 9.3
Therefore, the best "C" value for the post-mine dryland pasture is 0.055 + 0.004 = 0.059

20
